Highlanders season ends with 1-0 loss

Only one other team in North Puget Sound League 4A has had less goals scored on them this season than Hazen’s Lady Highlanders. Hazen faced that team, Tahoma, Nov. 1 with the winner heading to state.

“We figured it would be a low scoring game going in,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews. “Shots for us were hard to come by but we did have a couple of good chances.”

Hazen was on its heels during the first 15 minutes of the game then things seemed to even out with end to end play. The game stayed 0-0 through 79 minutes. Tahoma pulled the late goal for the 1-0 win. The Bears advance to state and Hazen’s season ends after 19 games.

“It was a tough way to end the year. I thought we played our best games against the better teams we faced,” Matthews said.
