Hazen wrestlers take tournament
Hazen wrestling came away with the team title last Saturday at the David Schlosser Dual Tournament.
Hazen went 4-0 on the day to take the championship with a clean sweep. On the day Hazen came away with a 38-30 win over Kentlake, 48-30 win over Foss, 45-36 win over Redmond, and a 42-32 win over Federal Way in the championship match.
The team wrestled tough despite filling in several weight classes with JV wrestlers, according to coach Rory Magana. Standouts on the day were Malik Haythorne, Derek Nichols, Jimmy Huynh, Jairo Barahona, and Cameron Felt who were dominant coming away undefeated on the day, he said.
Max Nguyen, Ryan Breske, and Kevin Buezo also all stepped up to earn their first varsity wins.
Since dropping their first two matches to Mercer Island and Mount Si, Hazen has won the last five dual matches that it has wrestled.
The Highlanders were scheduled to travel to Lindbergh Thursday and then to the Decatur Invitational on Saturday.
