Mitchell leads Hazen swimmers at state meet | BOYS SWIMMING
The Hazen swim team made a strong showing this past weekend at the Boys 3A swimming championship in Federal Way, finishing a respectable 13th and sending several individuals to the podium.
Overall, the team finished with 73 points, including eighth-place finishes in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
Malcolm Mitchell had the biggest individual day for the Highlanders. Mitchell first swam on the 200 medley team with Nolan Hoover, Chris Foth and Kyle Nelson. Mitchell then earned a seventh-place finish - Hazen's highest finish of the day - on his own, racing to a time of 53.32 seconds in the 100 butterfly. Finally, he once again joined teammates P.J. Warmhoven, Hoover and Connor Broughton in the 400 freestyle relay.
Broughton had a good day for Hazen as well, finishing ninth in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:51.66. Mitchell, who finished a close second to Broughton's first-place swim at districts, came in 18th.
Turn Englehart also had a good day for the Highlanders, earning a 12th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.26 second and a 14th-place spot in the 200 freestyle with a time if 1:50.68.
The Hazen swim team finished this season undefeated in the Seamount league.
