Emily Bone: Thanks to Renton Good Samaritans who helped me after fall

Not long ago I (age 77) tripped and fell on a high curb on a street next to the Cedar River. I landed torso down — hard — half on the sidewalk, half on the street.

I was not hurt beyond some scrapes, but I was shaken up (the way you often are after a fall) and not ready to get up right away.

A man walking a cute little white dog nearby came right over, asked if I was OK, but didn’t try to get me up (for which I was grateful). He just stayed near me, ready to help.

Almost immediately, a woman and a man, each in her/his own cars on the side of the street, got out of their cars asking to help. About then, and with a helping hand or two, I got myself turned around and sitting on the curb. When I was ready to stand, two took each of my hands and helped me up.

Nothing broken and surprisingly no pain — just shaken up. The lady asked where I was going; to my retirement center three blocks away, I replied. I’ll walk you home, she offered. At that point, the man with his dog said, “Oh, my dog and I are just out for a walk; we’ll walk her home.” And they did. I was relaxed enough by then that I was able to talk and we had a nice visit.

I did not get any names, but I hope these three “Good Samaritans” see this and know I have thanks in my heart for them.
