In response to the letter to the editor (These are my choices, Oct. 21, 2011) that was written in last week’s issue. I would like to respond to statements that were made claiming that I did not have one good thing to say about our present downtown library and that I thought our diverse community would be better served by a new smaller library located at the Big 5 site. I did not make those statements. The letter further went on to say that I voted against saving our library in a 6 to 1 vote which as you know is simply not the case! The council took a vote on June 20 to adopt Ordinance No. 5613 authorizing the issuance of up to $18 million in general obligation bonds to carryout the development of two new libraries in Renton. This was a 4 to 3 vote, 4 to approve and 3 not to approve the ordinance. As you know I was among those voting against the ordinance, seeking to get more input and direction from our residents to help guide us in making the best decision for Renton residents and the future site for the downtown library. I am clear and focused as to why I am on the Renton City Council and whose interest I represent and serve.
