EDITOR'S NOTE: Library Web sites

As an editor, I learn a lot from readers who react in unexpected ways to how we present the news, or, in this case, a letter to the editor.
Last week, I ran a letter to the editor from Dave McCammon, a supporter of annexing the City of Renton to the King County Library System. He included at the end of his letter some Web sites for readers to visit. I like to add graphic devices to make a page more interesting, so I put that information into what we call a “breakout box.” I intended the box to be an extension of Dave’s letter.
Rightly, I see now, I was questioned why I didn’t include the “con” side of the library issues. So, here’s a new breakout box, with the “con” Web site at the top. My thinking: the “pro” annexation side got top billing last week.
Please don’t divine from any of this where the Renton Reporter stands on this issue. I’ll be upfront when the newspaper expresses an opinion. In the meantime, please read Celeste Gracey’s series on the library annexation. Take our reader poll, too. We’ll repeat it closer to the vote.
