VALERIA A. HERMAN

1931 – 2018

Born Valeria Alice Schaack on September 1, 1931 in Sykeston, ND, Val passed away peacefully in Seattle, WA on March 9, 2018.

Valeria grew up on a farm where her family grew wheat and raised cows. The 4th of six children, she pitched in with the farm chores and fondly remembered her pony. Valeria graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Valley City State Teachers College in ND and taught country school in one-room school houses in Minnesota for a few years. In 1958 she married the love of her life Don W. Herman from Carrington, ND. They moved to Renton, WA where Don and Valeria would raise their family.

Throughout her life, Valeria was a devout Catholic and joined several choirs in the parishes she belonged to. Christmas’ Midnight Mass choral presentation was the highlight of the year. As her kids grew, she worked part time in Day Care businesses near her home.

She is preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Mathias and Theresa Schaack, sister Norma Zink, and brother, Jack Schaack. She is survived by her sister Marilyn (Vernon) Schaubert of Henderson, NV; brothers: Jerry (Marlene) Schaack of Bismarck,ND and Bob (Shirley) Schaack of Vancouver, WA. She leaves behind her loving children and grandchildren; Gabriel (Rosanna) Herman: Jesse, Elias (Port Townsend), Margarete( Rocky Mount,NC) and Breanna (Atlanta,GA); Edie (Milan) Havranek (Seattle, WA); Bob Herman: Matthew, David, Anthony (Kent, WA); Terri (Barry) Simonsen: Jacob and Hailey (Tacoma, WA). Valeria also leaves behind many other relatives, friends and caregivers who we wish to thank for all their kindness, compassion and support.

Charitable donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Providence Mount St. Vincent Foundation https://washington.providence.org in memory of Valeria Herman. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 12:30pm at Pigott Chapel, Mount St. Vincent 4831 35th Ave. SW Seattle, WA 98126.
