He loved to hunt and fish, and was an excellent cook. He loved a bargain and liked to shop, sometimes in excess. If one was good, then three had to be better. He was a member of the Renton Fish and Game Club, and lifetime member of the NRA and WA State Arms Collectors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Irene, and his older sister Patricia Rambo.

He is survived by his wife Cathy and his sister Sharon Minter. His children: Cari Hilzer, Kelly (Jeff) Sinclair, Cory (Linda) Hilzer, and Mike (Sue) Peterson.
