DORIS MARGRET ELDER

Doris Margret Elder returned to her heavenly home on February 23, 2017. She was 94 and died peacefully in her sleep.

Born to Swedish parents in Yakima, Doris was the oldest daughter to Erick and Ester Erickson. Her younger sister, Betty Jesperson still lives in Yakima. Doris spent her early years going to school and working on her family’s apple farm. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1942. She attended business college during the war years and worked in War Assets after the war. It was there that she met her soon to be husband Jimmie S. Elder. They were married on April 26, 1947.

Doris and Jimmie built their home in the Lakeridge neighborhood, just south of Seattle. Doris was a devoted homemaker and mother. They raised two children. They were active in Lakeridge Lutheran Church for over 50 years. They especially enjoyed family time and trips with neighbors and friends in their travel trailer. Doris was an avid gardener and loved to read.

Doris is survived by her husband Jimmie Elder, sister Betty Jesperson, son Bruce Elder (daughter-in-law Norma), daughter Janith Berry (son-in law Daryl), grandsons Nathan Elder and Noah Berry and great-grandson Kassian Elder.

A memorial will take place at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 19800 108th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98031 on Friday, March 17th at 11:00 am with a reception following.
