Renton police respond to shooting near McKnight Middle School | UPDATED: Shooter identified

A fight between two men led to one being shot on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Renton Police Department released the name and photo of the suspected shooter.

According to a Facebook post, Fernando Joel Valenzuela is considered armed and dangerous. Police is asking the public to call 911 if you have seen him or know him.

“SHOOTING SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

Today at approximately 1154 hours Renton Police responded to a fight in the 1100 block of Edmonds Ave NE. While enroute Officers were advised one subject was shot. The person shown has been identified as the suspect and is wanted for Assault. Fernando Joel Valenzuela is considered ARMED and DANGEROUS do not approach. Call 911 if you see him or know where he is.

He is described as an Hispanic male 5’8”/170lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes.

He is associated with a 1999 GMC Denali, black in color, Lic#ATG5385.

The victim is being treated at Harborview for life threatening injuries.

Updated 2:15 p.m.

Renton Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 11:54 a.m. at a parking lot on the 1100 block of Edmonds Avenue Northeast.

According to Commander David Leibman, two males were fighting at the parking lot. One of the men shot the other multiple times. When officers arrived, the suspect had left the scene. The man who was shot attempted to leave the scene on foot before officers found him.

The man sustained serious injuries and was transported to Harborview Medical Center. His current condition is unknown.

According to Renton School District, McKnight Middle School and Meadow Crest Early Learning Center were placed on modified lock down around noon. Both schools went back to regular operations by 12:25 p.m.

Police is still investigating the case.

Renton Police Department is reporting a shooting that occurred near the 1100 block of Northeast Edmonds that locked down McKnight Middle School today, Sept. 14.

According to the RPD Twitter, an officer responded to a report of a fight between two males that led to one being shot.

RPD reported the lockdown at McKnight Middle School has been lifted. There is no further information about this case currently.
