Police ID victim, suspect in Wednesday fatal car accident

According to police, Luis Cuellar, 36, of Seattle, was booked for vehicular homicide after indications that he was driving under the influence at the time of the accident.

Renton police on Friday identified both the woman killed and the man arrested following Wednesday’s fatal three-car accident on South Grady Way.

Verda January, 58, also of Seattle was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the collision occurred at about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of South Grady Way and Shattuck Avenue South.

A sedan, driven by Cuellar, was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed and drove through a red light, striking a second car, which was northbound on Shattuck.

The force of the impact carried the second car, driven by January, into an SUV that was waiting at the light. he King County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that January’s death was caused by multiple blunt force trauma.

Cuellar and the driver of the SUV also suffered minor injuries.
