John Robert Charlton pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of first-degree murder in the death of Ingrid Lyne, a Renton mother of three daughters.

He’s being held in the King County Jail in downtown Seattle on $5 million bail.

He’s also charged with stealing Lyne’s car which was found in downtown Seattle the night of April 11, the day after he was arrested.

If convicted, Charlton of Seattle faces a sentencing range of at least 21 years to nearly 28 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Charlton’s bail was originally set at $2 million at his first court appearance, but prosecutors asked the judge to increase it to $5 million.

A case-setting hearing is set for May 11.

Prosecutors were continuing to investigate any felonies for which Charlton was convicted in other states to determine whether those criminal convictions are comparable to Washington state’s. Depending on what they find, the sentence range could go up.

In ruling Lyne’s death a homicide, the county medical examiner was unable to pinpoint when she died but it was either April 8 or 9 after she attended a Mariners game with Charlton.

Her dismembered remains were found in a recycling bin on April 9 in Seattle’s Central District and additional remains were found later.

A gofundme account, set up to help her three daughters, has raised about $256,000.
