According to Greg Smith, director of Facilities Management Services for KCLS, the main issue is getting the power to the building which has caused delays to other parts of construction.

The initial opening of the library in October was postponed due to vandalism that had left an estimated damage of $100,000.

The 15,000-square foot library is built on Sunset Avenue and Harrington Avenue Northeast. The Highlands Library project is part of the Sunset Terrace redevelopment project and has the budget of up to $10 million.

The new opening date has not been determined yet.
