Fire damages house near downtown; couple displaced

A fire mid-morning on April 23 forced two adults from their two-story house near downtown. No one was home at the time of the fire.

A fire mid-morning on April 23 forced two adults from their two-story house near downtown Renton, according to Renton Fire and Emergency Services Department.

Renton fire crews, with assistance from Fire District 20 crews from Skyway, extinguished the fire at 430 Whitworth Lane in about 10 minutes, according to Deputy Fire Chief Erik Wallgren

Fire damaged the exterior of the house and extended a short distance into the crawl space and burned a hole through the wall into the living room, according to Wallgren, but didn’t reach the living room.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was reported at about 11:10 a.m. The owner and residents arrived at the scene. The Red Cross helped the two residents find temporary housing.

The cause of the fire is classified as undetermined.
