Boeing employee injured after suspect crashes into Renton plant | UPDATED

The suspect reportedly assaulted a Renton city employee before crashing into Boeing’s gate.

A Renton man was arrested for running over a Boeing employee with his car and assaulting a city park employee Monday, April 9.

The first 911 call was made around 8:15 a.m. when the park employee at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park called to report he was strangled from behind by an unknown suspect who left the scene. He sustained minor injuries from the strangulation.

The park employee was able to describe the suspect and his vehicle. Responding officers located the suspect’s vehicle on the way to the park. The suspect first appeared to be pulling over, but accelerated.

The suspect then ran over a 39-year-old Boeing employee and crashed his car into a gate at Boeing near the 700 block of Logan Avenue North.

Officers attempted to arrest the suspect, but “he fought back with what can be described as super-human strength,” according to a RPD press release. Other Boeing employees assisted in holding the suspect down until officers took him into custody.

According to police, the Boeing employee is in critical condition and is being treated at Harborview Medical Center.

The suspect was reportedly under the influence of drugs. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may have been suicidal.

The suspect sustained a hand injury, however officers are unclear how he got the injury. He was treated at Valley Medical Center before being transported to King County jail.

According to police, it is unclear how the suspect crashed into the Boeing gate. All attacks were reportedly unprovoked.

Investigators are still gathering statements and reports, as well as video surveillance from the patrol cars and the Boeing.
