A 24-year-old man was shot three times in the abdomen at about 6 p.m. Thursday near Petrovitsky Road and 104th Avenue Southeast, according to the Renton Police Department.
The suspect is believed to be a man known to frequent the Federal Way area, Renton Police Commander Floyd Eldridge said Friday.
The shooting "sounds like a prior disagreement between two people that is being rectified on the street," Eldridge said. Police aren't yet sure how many rounds were fired or how many people were in the suspect vehicle.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. He was improving later on Friday after surgery, Eldridge said.
A gang expert from the Renton Police Department joined a detective at Harborview to determine whether the shooting was gang-related, Eldridge said
Witnesses told police a large red or maroon vehicle pulled up to the victim and then shots were heard coming from the vehicle.
After the shooting, the suspect fled north on 106th Place Southeast in the car. Detectives with the Renton Police Department Investigations Divisionwere were continuing to interview witnesses Friday.
