14-year-old caught selling marijuana at Nelsen Middle School

A 14-year-old student was arrested for selling marijuana at Nelsen Middle School.

"I think this is unusual," said Katie McClincy, a commander at the Renton Police Department. "I think the school district handled it very well."

Administrators identified four seventh- and eighth-graders who bought the drugs from the boy Jan. 27.

One of the buyers was arrested for possession. He was released to his parents on campus.

"For some reason he admitted that it was still in his locker," said commander David Leibman.

The investigation is complete.

"They were thorough and systematic," McClincy said of the district. "I would certainly commend them for doing some good work."

A parent tipped off school administrators about the boy, after finding a text message offering to sell drugs to her student.

The 14-year old admitted selling the drugs to other students. He said he found the drugs on the ground and just wanted to get rid of them.

"All the students who were involved in this particular incident have been dealt with by the principal," said spokesperson Randy Matheson.

Police collected about 3 grams of weed.

"No one was actually caught smoking on campus," he said.

The 14-year-old was booked into Renton's jail.

If charged, he could face felony possession with intent to distribute.
