A 79-year-old woman, possibly from Portland, Ore., received life-threatening injuries early Wednesday evening when she was hit by a Metro bus, according to the Renton Police Department.

It’s possible the woman was in a crosswalk when she was hit but the police are doing measurements to verify that, according to Renton Commander David Leibman, who pointed out it was dark and rainy.

The victim was carrying identification which listed her as a Portland resident.

The accident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Rainier Avenue South.  She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Northbound Rainier Avenue South was closed for several hours while investigators processed the accident scene.
