Renton Technical College trustee Rich Zwicker rescinds resignation
August 26, 2009 · Updated 12:07 PM
Renton Technical College trustee Rich Zwicker rescinded his resignation, which was passionately made after the board's decision to fire president Don Bressler.
"At the time that I resigned I was upset and surprised. I didn't know what to do," he said.
He never took the formal steps of sending a letter of resignation to Governor Christine Gregoire, so the resignation was never official.
Support from the community, students and staff was a major factor in his decision to stay on the board, he said. "I had a lot of time to reflect."
Before rescinding the resignation, Zwicker gave a tell-all interview pointing to the 'smoking gun' that led to the decision to fire Bressler.
Normally the information in closed executive meetings isn't publicly discussed, but he excused it by saying, "I am not a trustee. That's what I hang my hat on."
The trustees haven't responded so far, he said.
"I'm not sure what to expect. I hope they can understand what I felt and we can work together in future," he said.
The board has begun the process of finding the next new president.
"I hope that the board will be able to work together, to make sure to get a good president to replace Dr. Bressler, who I believe was a good president," Zwicker said.
