Power outage disrupts service at county's development office on Thursday

A power outage at about 2:15 p.m. today disrupted services at the King County Department of Development and Environmental Services office on Oakesdale Avenue.

The outage, which affected 149 customers, was caused by a failed underground cable, according to MacKenzie McDowell, a spokeswoman for Puget Sound Energy.

Power was restored to 100 customers at about 4:10 p.m., allowing the county's development office to provide limited computer services to the public for the rest of the day. The agency's phones were working.

The other 49 customers should have power again at about 7 p.m. after the cable is replaced, McDowell said.

The outage did not affect the nearby Metro Sewage Treatment Plant.

The county's development office is typically closed on Friday, so it won't reopen until Monday. Once power was restored, it would likely take several hours for some computer databases and services to come back online, a county spokeswoman said.
