A public hearing before the City of Renton hearing examiner is scheduled for July 14 to discuss Highland Community Church’s proposed remodel and expansion.

The proposal would add an additional 19,000 square feet of building space, including a two-story education wing, lobby and larger sanctuary, to their main campus at 3031 N.E. 10th St.

“Our neighbors have seen these plans physically brought over to them and talked over with them, before anything went to the city,” said Marcy Rand, communications director for the project. “We’re confident that there aren’t objections.”

Though the project is scheduled in three phases, for now the church is focusing on raising about $1.2 million for additional parking space, Rand said.

The hearing examiner is reviewing the decision of the City of Renton’s Environmental Review Committee, which has placed conditions on the project.

The meeting is 9 a.m. at Renton City Hall on the seventh floor in the City Council chambers.
