Chief Deputy Prosecutor Kathleen Van Olst is the new director of King County’s Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.

She will replace Reed Holtgeerts, who is retiring after nearly 32 years with the department.

Van Olst now manages the new Complex Prosecutions and Investigations Division, which handles complex economic crime cases and also works closely with law enforcement on complex case investigations.

Van Olst is a member of the committee responsible for the drafting and implementation of new alternatives to detention for the King County Jail.

She is scheduled to begin her new post Oct. 13. The County Council must approve her appointment.
