Bail set at $500,000 for Renton woman who prosecutors allege set husband on fire | UPDATE
A King County Superior Court judge set bail at $500,000 Friday for 40-year-old Tatanysha M. Hedman of Renton, who is being held in the King County Jail in downtown Seattle for investigation of first-degree assault and first-degree arson.
Her next court appearance is July 22.
According to court documents, entering Renton officers could smell a strong odor of gasoline in a Renton apartment on Martin Luther King Way where prosecutors allege Hedman doused her husband with gasoline and set him on fire.
Burn marks were observed on a couch in the living room. A gasoline can was found.
A woman staying in the apartment told investigators she had heard the couple arguing in a bedroom. She saw Hedman run from the bedroom and out of the apartment.
Her husband then ran from the apartment, his head on fire. He fell next to the couch and she threw a blanket over him to put out the flames, according to documents.
Once the flames were out, the husband put on some clothes and left the apartment. His friend left a few minutes later.
The husband made his way to the 7-11 store at 12848 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, where he asked a clerk to call for medical help. According to documents, he told an officer, "My wife did it." He fell asleep before he could give the officer her name.
He was transported to Harborview Medical Center, where he was in critical but stable condition.
A 40-year-old woman wanted for setting her husband afire on July 16 was arrested Thursday night.
The Renton Police Department on Thursday had asked for the public's help in finding Tatanysha M. Hedman, who officers believe poured gasoline on her 52-year-old husband then lit him on fire at a Renton apartment complex.
The husband then walked into a store and asked the clerk to call for medical aid. Officers responded to the store but soon learned the assault occurred at a nearby apartment.
Hedman was arrested by members of Renton Police Department special-operations officers. Details of the arrest weren't immediately available.
Hedman was booked into the King County Jail in downtown Seattle at about 11 p.m. for investigation of first-degree assault and first-degree arson. Her first court appearance is today (Friday) in Seattle.
The victim was being treated at Harborview Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
