Renton part of Tibet vigil
August 4, 2008 · Updated 1:25 PM
A group promoting freedom for Tibet, which is now part of far western China, will hold a “Light Protest” around the world, including in Renton, on Thursday.
According to organizers, the protest was planned to coincide with the opening Friday of the Olympic Games in Beijing.
The protest is at 7:30 p.m. at the Piazza downtown at Third Street and Burnett Avenue.
The idea, according to organizers, is to join 100 million people around the world to light a single candle. This also can be done at home or at work.
The local organizer is the Seattle Friends of Tibet, seattlefot.org.
