More than 500 backpacks and hundreds of bike helmets were given away during the Third Annual Health and Safety Fair Saturday at the Skyway Fire Department.
The Alajawan Brown Foundation gathered backpacks and school supplies to remember Alajawan Brown, 12, who was fatally shot in the back by a gang member in 2010. Their son’s vision by helping other children in Skyway, where gangs and poverty are a constant presence.
“This is the third year, where King County Fire District 20 and other community groups like the Alajawan Brown Foundation have come to help its residents who maybe struggling to fill the back to school supply list, or don’t have a bike helmet to ride safely to school,” said Dave Nelson, Skyway Fire spokesperson. “Today children walked away from this event better prepared for the school year.”
