Michael Boysen in serious condition Wednesday at Portland hospital

Michael "Chadd" Boysen, the prime suspect in the killings of his grandparents in Fairwood Friday, is in serious condition at a Portland hospital Wednesday, following his capture Tuesday in an Oregon coastal town.

According to media reports, Boysen was alone in a Lincoln City motel room when SWAT teams entered at about 7 p.m., finding him alone and lying on the floor with apparently self-inflicted cuts.

A motel clerk recognized Boysen from media reports; he also checked in under his own name. The clerk alerted police. The standoff lasted about seven hours.

Boysen was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland in critical condition; his condition was later upgraded to serious.

How Boysen's grandparents, Robert R. Taylor, 82, and Norma J. Taylor, 80, died Saturday hasn't been released by the King County medical examiner. They had brought Boysen home from prison on Friday and hosted a welcome-home party for him at their house in Fairwood. He was staying with them.

After the couple's slaying, investigators with the King County Sheriff's Office learned he had made threats against his grandparents and police while in prison.

It was not anticipated that King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg would make a decision about charging Boysen on Wednesday, according to his spokesman, Dan Donohoe.

Security at some Tahoma School District schools was heightened Monday as a precaution because Boysen, 26, is a former student in the school district. The schools were not placed on lockdown.

Boysen is from the Maple Valley area, according to the district.
