Renton Rotary honors three teachers for April

The Rotary Club of Renton has honored its Teachers of the Month for April.

As part of the recognition, teachers attend Rotary’s Teacher of the Month luncheon at Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher receives $200 for classroom supplies or instructional materials.

• Elena Hillard is a teacher at Renton Academy. Hillard earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and educational theory from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She earned a master’s degree in special education with a focus in emotional and behavioral disabilities at the University of Washington. Before joining the Renton School District, Hillard worked as an instructor with Outward Bound, taking at-risk teens on therapeutic wilderness trips. This is Hillard’s second year teaching in Renton.

• Sarah Gregory is a third-grade teacher at Renton Park Elementary. Gregory majored in elementary and early childhood education at Central Washington University. She earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, with a literacy specialization, from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. Before becoming a teacher, Gregory owned and operated a mini-daycare. Gregory has taught in Renton four years.

• Terrance Carlisle is a kindergarten teacher at Lakeridge Elementary School. Carlisle earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Central Washington University. Before becoming a teacher he worked part-time as a professional musician and as a lead man at A.W. Hoss & Son Furniture for more than 25 years. This is Carlisle’s sixth year teaching in Renton.
