January 10, 2013 · 10:38 AM

The Cities of Kent and Renton – in partnership with Catholic Community Services – are opening severe weather shelters at Kent Lutheran Church and the Renton Harambee Center due to low temperatures and predicted snow accumulation.

These shelters will be open nightly starting Thursday, closing the morning of Monday

The locations:

• Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave. S.

• Renton Harambee Center, 316 S. Third St.

Check-in and registrations 8:30 p.m. The shelter closes at 7 a.m.; all must vacate

All are welcome. The shelter is available for single women and men, couples, and homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles; separate sleeping spaces have been prepared for men, women, and for families with children.

The shelter will be operated by Catholic Community Services staff and volunteers from the greater Kent/Renton community.

As with all shelters, rules for the health and safety of clients, staff and the broader community will apply.

There are also shelters open in Auburn, Federal Way, Bellevue, and Seattle. Please contact the Crisis Clinic by dialing 211 to access shelter information in these other areas or use this link for a list of winter shelters operating throughout King County.

For more information please contact the City of Kent, Housing & Human Services office at 253-856-5070 or the City of Renton, Human Services office at 425-430-6600.
