Farewell community event planned for Renton superintendent

The Renton School District is inviting the community to a farewell event for Superintendent Mary Alice Heuschel on Jan. 9.

The event will take place from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Commons at Renton High School, 200 S. Third St. in Renton.There will be a short program at 5 p.m. with speakers.Heuschel is leaving her post to take the position of chief of staff for Gov.-elect Jay Inslee mid-January.

She has served as superintendent of the district since 2006.Heuschel will preside over the 7 p.m. school board meeting that night for the last time in her official capacity as superintendent.
