September 21, 2012 · 9:31 AM
Efforts to fight the massive fires in central Washington have closed Blewett Pass (U.S. 97) between Interstate 90 and U.S. 2 today, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
The pass closed at about 8 a.m. today (Friday) and is scheduled to reopen at 6 p.m. from milepost 150 at the junction of SR 970 to milepost 177, eight miles south of the junction of U.S. 2.
Blewett Pass is southwest of the Wenatchee area, where large fires have been burning. The closure is necessary for back burning and fire-containment operations.
