Renton man killed in crash in Bellevue

A 21-year-old Renton man was killed just after midnight today (Saturday) when the car in which he was a passenger struck a jersey barrier head-on near Interstate 405 in Bellevue, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The man’s name wasn’t immediately released, pending notification of his family.

According to the state patrol, the vehicle, driven by a 31-year-old Renton man, was eastbound on Northeast Sixth Street at I-405 when it failed to negotiate a turn and struck a jersey barrier. The patrol statement indicated that drugs or alcohol were involved.

The driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Another passenger in the car, a 19-year-old Renton woman, was taken to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.

The roadway was blocked for 3 ½ hours, according to the state patrol.
