Fire displaces two from apartment in the Renton Highlands

The American Red Cross is providing shelter and food to a woman and her caretaker who were forced from their apartment by a fire early Tuesday afternoon in the Highlands.

Smoke was billowing from a single unit of an apartment complex in the 800 block of North Fourth Street when fire crews from Renton Fire and Emergency Services arrived at about 12:30 p.m., according to fire department press release.

The two occupants were already outside and the fire was quickly extinguished. No one was injured

Damage was confined to the one unit, with slight smoke damage to the unit above the fire. A fire investigator was at the scene to determine a cause and place a damage estimate.

The two-story apartment has 11 units. North Fourth Street, a busy route between the Highlands and Renton Avenue, was closed down for about an hour.
