Kenneth A. Blanchard, 53, of Renton died Sunday evening when his paraglider crashed near the Squak Mountain State Park Natural Area.

Blanchard was riding on what appeared to be a thermal current when suddenly the wing started twisting and spinning out of control, witnesses told the King County Sheriff's Office.

The wing then collapsed, falling 40 to 50 feet into a pasture in the 12300 block of 202th Place Southeast in the Issaquah Highlands, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses and fire personnel performed cardi-pulmonary rescuscitation, but he died at the scene.
