A fatal car accident stopped traffic north of Airport Way on Rainier Avenue North in Renton Thursday afternoon.
At about 3:45 p.m., Renton police and fire crews were sent to the 400 block of Rainier Avenue North in response to a single vehicle collision. They found a vehicle had left the road and struck a tree. When police arrived the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and the driver, a male who has yet to be identified, was deceased.
A bystander suffered burn injuries during an rescue attempt to pull the victim from the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital by fire department units.
Renton police are still investigating and have some idea that speed may have been a factor in the accident.
Rainier Avenue North was closed to traffic in both directions from South 115th Street to Airport Way. The closure will last into Thursday evening.
