Renton Youth Symphony Orchestra to perform on Sunday

The performance is 3 p.m., April 30 at Carco Theater.

The Renton Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Alexei Girsh will be presenting its spring concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30 at in Carco Theatre,

The Renton Youth Symphony Orchestra (RYSO) was created in the fall of 1986 to give talented young musicians an opportunity to play in a full orchestra with a professional director. The junior Debut Orchestra, conducted by Mike Chen, was inaugurated in the fall of 2013 to develop younger musicians for the senior orchestra.

It was the intent of the organizers to make this classical music education available to any qualified player in the community by offering it close to home and by keeping tuition costs low.

RYSO is concluding its 30th anniversary season with works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Babajanyan, Albinoni, Smetana and Schumann. The Debut Orchestra will perform works by Bizet, Meyer and Elgar.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for children 12 and under. All proceeds, including RYSO’s silent auction and raffle basket fundraisers, will go to support student scholarships and the orchestra’s program.

The Renton Youth Symphony Orchestra and its Debut Orchestra (for developing musicians with at least one year of music instruction) meets at 6:30 pm on Monday evenings September-April. In August, a musical jam session is scheduled at the Renton Community Center to greet new and returning students. Student musicians are invited to enroll in RYSO’s 2 sessions during September and January. For more information please contact the Renton Community Center at 425-430-6700.
