Local teacher receives state VFW award

Gina Lindberg-Blatterman from Renton was honored with the award.

Gina Lindberg-Blatterman from Renton was honored with the Washington VFW Citizenship Education Award from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the state of Washington.

She will go on to compete at the national level. In July, three recipients will receive an award, $1,000 donation for their professional development and another $1,000 for their school. They will also receive a trip to Washington D.C. for this year’s VFW Legislative Committee meeting/Voice of Democracy Conference.

Lindberg-Blatterman is a teacher at Ilalko Elementary School in Auburn and “the award was based on her innovative methods of promoting America’s history, traditions and institutions effectively in a classroom environment,” a media release stated.
