About 2,000 runners filled the streets and paths in North Renton last weekend to raise money for the Renton/Skyway Boys and Girls Club.
“The weather was beautiful. Everyone was really enthusiastic,” said organizer Kim Oakley of the 12K Seahawks Run.
Although it’s not the first run at The Landing, it was the first official Seahawks run.
The Fearey Group, which organized the event, won’t know how much money was raised until next week.
Football players passed out water and the Sea Gals greeted visitors. Blue Thunder, a drumline for the Seahawks, performed.
As a part of the National Football League’s youth program Play 60, 123 kids lined up for a half-mile dash contained within The Landing.
“It’s all about getting kids to be active and leading healthy and active lives,” Oakley said, who works with The Fearey Group.
A block party, which included free activities for kids, drew an additional 800-1,000 people.
“Most of our runners came from outside Renton. So we introduced a lot of new people to the area,” Oakley said.
