About $30,000 was raised for youth and families last Saturday during RAYS (Renton Youth and Family Services) “Signature Showcase” Dinner and Auction at Renton Technical College.

“The auction went really well,” Carol E. Sanford wrote in an e-mail. Sanford is RAYS director of development. “The place looked gorgeous; the volunteers did a fabulous job.”

Two people received awards at the event. Susan Richards received the RAYS4Hope Award. Richards is executive director of Communities In Schools of Renton.

Carolina Perez received the first RAYS4Hope Scholarship. A Renton High School junior, Perez has spent four years in RAYS (Renton Area Youth and Family Services) Rites of Passage Program, a support group for youth struggling in school.
