Lakeridge Elementary School in Renton received a top honor from Symetra Financial and the Seattle Seahawks.

The school was one of only three Puget Sound-area schools to win the 2010 Symetra Hereos in the Classroom “MVP Award.” Lakeridge will receive recognition and a $10,000 grant to fund an innovative student achievement program.

The school was honored during an on-field check presentation at the Seahawks’ home game on Jan. 2, with Lakeridge Principal Ginny Knox accepting the check.

The school won the award for their innovative Scholars Club program. It was created by Lakeridge’s kindergarten and first-grade teachers to help parents learn to be teachers in the home for their children. Parents, students and teachers engage in learning activities at school, which parents then use at home to extend education for their children.
