Valley Community Players announced Wednesday that it will cease operations after 46 years of "producing quality theater for Renton and the surrounding area," according to its website.

The website message from the Board of Trustees continued:

"It was a difficult decision that was made for a variety of reasons including the state of the local economy.

"The board members would like to thank all of you who have supported this theater group over the years, and hope you have enjoyed the work of our talented artists both on and off stage."

Valley Community Players will have a “Final Curtain” sale 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, and Sunday, Sept. 19, at the VCP office, 231½ Main Ave S., Renton.

Items for sale will include stage props, costumes, tools, furniture, doors, flats, set pieces and fabric.
